Self-Defense Workshops are women-only, skill-based sessions designed to provide practical, realistic self-defense tools in a supportive and controlled learning environment. Open to participants ages 12 and up, these workshops welcome both members and non-members and are structured to be approachable, informative, and empowering for individuals of all experience levels. Each workshop is a one-time, 90-minute session focused on building awareness, confidence, and practical self-defense skills that can be applied in real-world situations.
Workshops begin with self-defense fundamentals, including situational awareness, risk prevention strategies, and recognizing potentially unsafe situations before they escalate. Participants also learn boundary-setting and verbal self-defense skills, practicing how to communicate clearly and assertively in situations where personal space or safety is being challenged.
The physical portion of the workshop introduces effective, easy-to-learn striking techniques designed for real-world application. Skills may include palm strikes, elbow strikes, knee strikes, basic kicks, and other simple defensive movements that emphasize leverage and efficiency rather than strength alone. Depending on the focus of the specific workshop, some sessions may also include introductory ground work, such as basic escapes or positioning strategies. Instruction focuses on clear explanation, repetition, and understanding when and why each skill might be used.
All partner practice is conducted with controlled contact using protective body pads, along with clear communication and close instructor supervision. This approach allows participants to practice techniques with realistic movement and resistance while maintaining a safe and comfortable learning environment. Participants leave with a better understanding of personal safety strategies, increased confidence in their ability to respond under pressure, and practical skills they can carry forward in everyday life.
