How did you get involved with AWBC?
I had done a little boxing in my gym in Brooklyn and was always annoyed when men would make comments. I was thrilled when I googled Austin boxing gyms and saw there was one for women! I went to a beginner workshop with coach Alex and the rest is history.
What’s your favorite part about being a member?
I absolutely love the intensity of the exercise and constantly improving my boxing skills. But my favorite part is the other members- I'm endlessly amazed at how talented, funny, smart, and dedicated this group is.
What’s your favorite punch or combo?
1-1-2. Second favorite would be going all out on body hooks!
Do you have a favorite pro boxer or martial artist?
Cindy Ngamba - super inspiring
What do you do outside of boxing? Are you a student? Do you work?
I'm a physician and lead part of the Internal Medicine Residency program at UT.
Any hobbies or passion projects?
Birding and baking are my top hobbies (besides boxing). I do advocacy work with asylum seekers. Most of my free time lately is spent playing and negotiating with our 3 year old.
What's your "walkout song?"
Star Trek: Enterprise theme song
Can you give us two of your favorite musical artists and two of your favorite music genres to work out to?
Girl in a Coma, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Genres- all girl rock bands and European pop music (in French or German)
How has AWBC changed your life?
Oh man so many great ways! I have way more confidence in my physical abilities. I now know I enjoy group exercise. And I have awesome friends that enrich my life.
