How did you get involved with AWBC?
I started boxing while I was living in Brooklyn and when I moved to Austin finding a new boxing gym was one of the first things I did - I thought it was super cool that there was a women's boxing gym and I am so grateful that AWBC is the first gym I walked into in Austin.
What’s your favorite part about being a member?
I really love the community at AWBC. It was hard to move to a city where I didn't really know anyone and I have made so many friends at AWBC. The classes, the gym and the coaching are all top tier but it's really the people that make AWBC such a special place for me.
What’s your favorite punch or combo?
Hooks to the body.
Do you have a favorite pro boxer or martial artist?
I first got into boxing watching Floyd Mayweather so he'll always hold a special place for me.
What do you do outside of boxing? Are you a student? Do you work?
I run operations for a healthtech company. We used to provide in home and virtual care to seniors but we're currently in the middle of reimagining our business - we're currently working on products to support people who have received a life-changing diagnosis & people who are transitioning home from acute care.
Any hobbies or passion projects?
Probably too many hobbies lol. If I'm not at the gym I'm probably at an estate sale or a thrift store and I'm also really into crafting. My current crafting obsession is making clothing from vintage sewing patterns (from estate sales or thrift stores).
What's your "walkout song?"
You Be Killin Em - Fabolous
Can you give us two of your favorite musical artists and two of your favorite music genres to work out to?
My all time favorite band is The Shins (not really workout music) and right now my other favorite is Silversun Pickups. My favorite genres to work out to are pop punk/emo & 90s/early 2000s hip hop.
How has AWBC changed your life?
Finding an incredible community has been the biggest thing for me. But also learning how to box in general has been a really humbling experience, I spent most of my life only doing things that I was immediately good at and having to constantly learn new things and challenge my poor coordination has both tested my patience and made me a more resilient person. Joining AWBC and realizing the bad habits I picked up at my last gym and having to learn some of the basics again - like throwing a good jab - was another humbling experience but one that I am super grateful for.
